Ramble times!
Many of you may know, either from knowing me in real life or just browsing my gallery, that I love the paranormal. Especially ghost stories.
But I really, really cannot stand vampire stories. Well, modern ones at least. I like the old ones... the old myths and legends. The ones where burning a vampire caused all sorts of evil creatures to crawl out of the embers and would try to escape. And you'd have to kill each and everyone because even if just ONE escaped, the vampire would be able to regenerate. Or the stories where if a suicide victim was buried on hallowed ground, their punishment was to return as a Vampire and feed on those they loved in life. I like THOSE stories.
Not the sexy-vampire-loves-me-I'm-so-special bullshit. Like Twilight, OH GOD. Don't even get me started. The merchandising and tie-ins alone are enough to make me vomit bile out of pure annoyance. The misogynist themes make me murderous. Its just not a good scene.
That was, until my friend(s) forced me to watch True Blood. And I am hooked. Yea, there is a the sexy-vampire-loves-me thingy. But there's so much more! And Sookie isn't a bag of milk-sodden toast. Fuck, when Edward leaves Bella her brain stops working. FOR MONTHS. Yet she happily takes Mr. Watches-her-sleep-and-probably-also-pee back without a second thought. COOL MESSAGE MEYERS.
But in True Blood when Bill returns to Sookie after leaving her in a similarly callous manner, Sookie throws him out of the house! She tells him off! Sookie >x1000000 > Dog shit > Blackholes void of personality and warmth > Bella Swan YESSSS
I am considering reading the Sookie Stackhouse series, even with their horrible covers. They hurt me.
