The Black Death: Pest Maiden

For a school project; essentially information illustration. Had to illustrate several images and put together an informative package on a subject of my choice. As per usual, I chose something less than pleasent... the Black Death.

This was the illustration for the cover of the booklet. I reworked the Pest Maiden from Scandinavian folklore, and made her into a combination between herself, and the iconic Death figure, plus a bit of a plague doctor thrown in (red eyes). There are black rats crawling through her hair because that was how the disease was spread.
